What is Plaza Resident Services?

Plaza Resident Services is a housing platform in the Netherlands that offers affordable rental homes in community buildings. Plaza is part of Mosaic World — a group of organizations involved in the housing market. Plaza invests in, builds, and manages properties across multiple cities in the Netherlands — surprisingly, in regions that are far apart within the country.

“Plaza” is a new name. Not long ago, Plaza Resident Services was known as Camelot Europe, which was involved in many scandals with tenants.

The name “Plaza” comes from the Spanish word for “place,” traditionally referring to a communal space where residents could meet and trade. Reflecting this concept, Plaza Resident Services focuses on creating community-oriented living spaces.

They list their available homes on the NewNewNew platform, where you can find furnished accommodations suitable for both short-term and long-term rentals. Plaza is not as popular as Pararius or Funda, which means the competition for homes on Plaza Resident Services is significantly lower.

In some cases, it is even possible to rent a parking, storage or workspace from Plaza Resident Services.

If you're looking for rentals in the Netherlands, you probably shouldn't consider Plaza Resident Services as your only option. The key to rental search in 2025 is to use the highest number of platforms possible to build the widest pipeline of homes.

How Does Plaza Resident Services Work?

The concept of the NewNewNew platform is quite straightforward.

To begin your search, create an account on the NewNewNew platform. There is a €25 registration fee, which is refundable if you end up renting a home from Plaza Resident Services. The registration fee will allow you access the NewNewNew platform for 12 months.

Once registered, you can browse accommodation options and apply for as many properties as you like—there’s no limit on the number of applications.

After applying for the properties you’re interested in, you’ll need to upload the necessary documents for yourself or your sponsor. Required documents typically include proof of income and identification. Plaza Resident Services operates on a first-come, first-served basis, meaning the first applicant whose documents meet the approval criteria is likely to secure the property.

If your application is approved, you’ll receive an offer and have 24 hours to accept the accommodation. Upon acceptance, you’ll proceed to handle the necessary payments as outlined in your rental agreement.

After moving in, you gain access to a self-service portal where you can find all relevant information about your accommodation. This includes your contract, the ability to submit maintenance requests, and access to invoices.

Plaza Resident Services has specific criteria for allocating properties:

  • Income Level: A minimum gross monthly income of three times the bare rent is required.
  • Rental History: A positive and verifiable rental history is advantageous. Applicants without a rental history may need to provide additional information.
  • Identity Verification: A thorough screening of your identification and financial standing is conducted to ensure authenticity and financial reliability.
  • Accommodation Suitability: Some properties may be more suitable for certain applicants based on the location or specific characteristics of the accommodation.
  • Final Decision: The property owner makes the final choice among prospective tenants. The rental agency facilitates the process but does not influence the final decision.

There’s also a great video recorded by Plaza that clearly demonstrates how the platform works:

Plaza Resident Services - Reviews

For a rental agency in the current market, we'd say that Plaza has many positive reviews. Some tenants on Google Reviews complain about elevators not working, high cleaning costs, but on the same time there are many very positive ones. There are also Reddit threads like this and this with tenants sharing their experiences with Plaza Resident Services. TrustPilot reviews, however, aren't that positive.

The issue with Plaza is that they recently rebranded from Camelot Europe, whose reviews were... Well, they were very bad. They were involved in multiple scandals, court cases about overcharging tenants, bad management, and even death of a tenant. This YouTube episode of the BOOS program about Camelot Europe went viral:

To their credit, many of the post-rebranding reviews are positive. But it is not clear whether these reviews are genuine. For example, in 2023 Plaza had no warm water in their Delft building for over 7 months.

Disadvantages: What You Should Know Before Using Plaza Resident Services

Before using Plaza Resident Services for your rental search, consider these drawbacks:

  • Since Plaza Resident Services was rebranded from Camelot Europe, a company notorious for unexpected charges and failing to refund deposits, concerns remain that the name change hasn’t addressed underlying issues.
  • Many tenants report delays in getting things fixed when they break. For example, not having warm water for 7 over 7 months (we still don't believe how that is possible).

Advantages of Using Plaza Resident Services in Rental Search

Despite some downsides, Plaza Resident Services has several significant benefits:

  • Prices, especially in larger cities, are below market rates.
  • Opportunity to make friends, since you will be living in a community.
  • Lower competition for homes compared to standard rental options.
  • Most accommodations come fully furnished.

What Areas Does Plaza Resident Services Cover?

Plaza Resident Services Alternatives

There are more than hundred rental platforms in the Netherlands, each with exclusive housing. Complete overview of rental platforms in the Netherlands can be found in Uprent's Complete Rental Guide.

The most obvious alternative to Plaza Resident Services is Uprent. Let's cover how Uprent is different:

All Listings in One Place

Uprent aggregates listings from almost all platforms in the Netherlands into a single feed. So, it will have listings from Plaza Resident Services, along with listings from almost every other platforms across the country.

Different Way of Filtering Homes

Hard to explain... Just check it out below:

Remove the Mess

In the past, many people used Google Sheets or Notion databases to track their rental applications — or didn’t track them at all — leading to missed opportunities and forgotten applications. With Uprent, every application is automatically saved to your dashboard. This allows you to easily manage and monitor all your applications in one place. Uprent also sends reminders for important follow-ups and automates tasks like creating Google Calendar events for viewings. You can even share your dashboard with your flatmate, allowing you to collaborate on the rental search.

Be the First to Apply

We cannot stress how important the speed of sending a reaction is. Ideally, you should react to new listings in minutes, or even better seconds. Many real estate agencies follow first-come-first-serve approach, and therefore you want to be among these first people that submit their viewing request.

Luckily, Uprent helps you even with that. You can opt in to be notified of new listings. That way, whenever there is a new listing detected at one of the supported platforms, you will receive an instant alert on your email or phone (depending on what you select).
