  There isn’t much to critique about this place—it’s simply PERFECT! Here are my notes: The Apartment: The apartment is located in a Koetshuis (former carriage house) on the grounds of a 13th-century castle. My notes: 1. Amazing Landlord: Truly the best—always super helpful and supportive. 2. Friendly Neighbors: Over time, we all became friends, traveled together, and spent time together. 3. You’re surrounded by nature, yet only a 15-minute bike ride from three towns with all amenities (Gulpen, Simpelveld, and Vaals). A bus stop is just a 1-2 minute walk from the house, with routes to Aachen, Germany, or Maastricht, Netherlands. Living close to Belgium and Germany was fantastic; we traveled almost every week and explored so much, including nearby villages. You can quickly get to Aachen in 20mins and get local groceries or Döner. 4. The area is perfect for cycling, running, and hiking, with four excellent gyms nearby. 5. We ordered groceries online, and they were delivered right to our door. 6. No long queues for doctors or schools. 7. Excellent Healthcare - I highly recommend Dr. Reinartz in Gulpen and Espenbos Clinic (dentists) in Cadier en Keer. 8. You can buy fresh meat, honey, and vegetables, all grown in the village, from local farmers. 9. This is one of the few places in the Netherlands with snow in winter. The landscape has beautiful hills and even some small mountains. 10. Compared to Amsterdam, it may seem that you're far from the world. Yet you’re closer than ever to the rest of Europe. With multiple nearby airports (Maastricht, Brussels, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Dortmund, Eindhoven, Amsterdam, etc.), it’s easy to find affordable flights. You can also take trains from Aachen or Liege and reach major cities like Brussels, Paris, London, and Luxembourg within hours. 11. Don’t be afraid to live here - it’s a much better value than what you’d find elsewhere in the Netherlands. 12. It’s entirely possible to live here comfortably without a car, but if you do have one, it’s even more convenient. 13. Modern interior: The living room has two sofas and a large dining table, perfect for hosting dinners. The kitchen has plenty of storage, though for me it’s slightly low (I’m 187cm) and there isn't enough space to cook with two people. There are two spacious bedrooms, one with panoramic windows. Floor heating exists, but not really noticeable. The air conditioning is excellent in summer and covers the whole apartment. The second bedroom is huge, has its own toilet, and is great for guests. 14. The castle-in-the-backyard experience is next-level. Having a backyard the size of a city park and a castle as a backdrop is incredible. Every guest who visits thinks has this 'Wow' effect. But the house is actually priced similarly to a studio in Amsterdam. 15. The apartment’s size (110m²) is very comfortable and balanced. 16. Whenever something broke, it was very quickly replaced. Disadvantages: - Old Building: The house was built in the 1700s, so as in all Dutch houses, there may be occasional mold in winter. It's manageable. - During extreme rains, we experienced minor electrical issues, but they were quickly fixed.
